Digital Twin

A Digital Twin is a digital representation of an intended or actual real-world physical product, system, or process that serves as the effectively indistinguishable digital counterpart of it for practical purposes, such as simulation, integration, testing, monitoring, and maintenance.

Whilst the Digital Twin has been promoted recently by every vendor’s marketing department, it is fair to say you may need to weed through jargon and expert tech-speak, to discover just what their offering can accomplish or if they have any installed user accounts.

At its core, the digital twin is a simple concept with a simple definition. In its broadest sense, digital twin technology is the process of using data streams to create a digital representation of a real-world asset to improve collaboration, information access, and decision-making. In other words, through a combination of simulation technology and data (gathered from sensors, historical records, and so on), engineers use software that builds a virtual twin of a physical object or process.

Digital twin technology can refer to data-augmented 3D assemblies or GIS landscapes, with the ability to see live performance data from items like pumps and switches. But more often than not current capabilities may lead to an intelligent 2D or fully interactive physics-based data model in spreadsheet form.

Contact EnableXR to discuss your data and live sensors, to see how you can build a Digital Twin.
